Really, I’m not, so I can’t really give you the fully detailed scientific report of why the human body can’t get high from CBD, but I can at least explain it simply. It all starts with the endocannabinoid system that can be found in every living mammal on Earth. This is a system of receptors in the brain and body which are stimulated by endocannabinoids (cannabinoids naturally produced by your body) and cannabinoids like THC. While THC and other cannabinoids found in cannabis directly stimulate the two main receptors responsible for the cannabis high, known as the CB1 and CB2 receptors, CBD does not. Instead, it affects the signalling between these two receptors, which partly explains why it is entirely non-intoxicating compared to THC. It also increases the natural endocannabinoids in your body by blocking an enzyme which breaks them down, and this is suspected to correlate heavily with the medicinal effects of CBD.
